上海市作家协会成立于1949年，是上海作家自愿结合的专业性人民团体。现任主席为著名作家孙甘露。

团结和促进上海作家进行创造性劳动，繁荣和发展文学事业，努力发现扶植文学新人，鼓励作家深入生活，努力创作，开展国际文学交流，维护和保障会员的一切合法权利是上海市作家协会的宗旨。

协会下设“发展会员审批委员会”、“专业作家、签约作家资格评审委员会”，“作家权益保障”等专项委员会。目前会员1918人，分布在全市各行各业，分设小说、散文、诗歌、理论、儿童文学、戏剧影视文学、外国文学和古典文学等八个专业委员会。

协会主办的文学刊物有《收获》双月刊、《上海文学》月刊、《萌芽》半月刊、《思南文学选刊》月刊、《上海文化》双月刊、《上海诗人》和《上海作家》（内部双月刊）。下属有上海作家网，是上海作协对外宣传、信息传播、服务会员的官方网站；华语文学网，是上海作协立足上海、服务全国、面向世界的大型数字出版与阅读服务平台；云文学网，是上海作协致力于优秀青年文学人才发现与选拔的文学原创平台。

大型文学双月刊《收获》杂志。奉行“海纳百川，有容乃大”的宗旨，力争荟集各种风格流派的顶尖作品，向世界展示中国当代文学日趋成熟的实绩。《收获》是作家们成名的阶梯，是蕴育了几代作家的地方，同时，《收获》也是海内外了解中国文坛发展态势的一个窗口，被称为中国当代文学的“简写本”。第一任主编为巴金。

《上海文学》杂志是当代中国一本具有重要影响的文学月刊，由巴金创刊于1953年1月，至今已有六十年的历史。《上海文学》秉承高品位与高质量的编辑理念，以精萃的中短篇小说、诗歌、散文和贴近现实生活和文学现状的话题探讨，以及敏锐求实的文学批评作为杂志的主打内容，展现了中国文学的发展潮流。

《萌芽》杂志1956年创刊，是新中国最早创办的青年文学刊物，坚持以培养青年作家为己任。既是青年作家的创作园地，也是一本努力提高青少年文学修养的读物。作为国内顶尖的原创青春文学杂志，《萌芽》已经成为80后90后青春文学文化象征，巅峰发行量超过50万。1997年，《萌芽》创办了“全国新概念作文大赛”，“新概念”成为与“80后”齐名的时代关键词。

《上海文化》杂志是一本文学理论刊物，关注中国当代文学，关注时代，关注世界潮流，关注经典，关注大师和无名者的写作，关注一切新的文学现象和文化现象。常设栏目有“本刊观察”、“方法与文本”、“文学史”、“跨界叙事”、“视野”、“阅读札记”和“边际访谈”。

Founded in 1949, the Shanghai Writers’ Association is a professional people’s organization voluntarily formed by Shanghai-based writers. Its current chairperson is the renowned writer Sun Ganlu.

The mission of the Shanghai Writers’ Association is to unite and inspire Shanghai writers in their creative work, advance and flourish literary undertakings, discover and nurture emerging literary talents, encourage writers to immerse themselves in real life and devote themselves to creation, organize international literary exchanges, and safeguard all legitimate rights and interests of its members.

The Association has set up special committees including the Membership Approval Committee, the Qualification Review Committee for Professional and Contract Writers, and the Writers’ Rights Protection Committee. It currently boasts 1,918 members from all walks of life across the city, organized into eight specialized committees dedicated to fiction, prose, poetry, literary theory, children’s literature, drama, film and television literature, foreign literature, and classical literature respectively.

The Association sponsors a roster of literary publications: the bimonthly magazine Harvest, monthly journal Shanghai Literature, semimonthly magazine Mengya (Buds), monthly anthology Sinan Literature Digest, bimonthly journal Shanghai Culture, poetry journal Shanghai Poets, and the internal bimonthly newsletter Shanghai Writers.

It also runs three affiliated online platforms:

Shanghai Writers Network, the official website for external publicity, information dissemination and member services;
Chinese Literature Network, a large digital publishing and reading platform rooted in Shanghai, serving readers nationwide and connecting with the world;
Cloud Literature Network, an original literary platform dedicated to identifying and selecting promising young literary talents.

Harvest

As a prestigious bimonthly literary magazine, Harvest adheres to its guiding principle: “The sea embraces hundreds of rivers; its vastness stems from tolerance.” It strives to gather top-tier works of all styles and schools, showcasing the maturing landscape of contemporary Chinese literature to the world.

A stepping stone for countless writers to rise to fame and a cradle nurturing generations of literary creators, Harvest also serves as a window for readers at home and abroad to track trends in China’s literary circle, earning it the moniker “A Condensed Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Literature.” Ba Jin served as its first editor-in-chief.

Shanghai Literature

Launched by Ba Jin in January 1953, the monthly journal Shanghai Literature has exerted profound influence on contemporary Chinese literature over its six decades of publication. Upholding the editorial philosophy of high taste and outstanding quality, the magazine features exquisite novellas and short stories, poems and essays, in-depth discussions on real life and current literary landscapes, and sharp, pragmatic literary criticism, capturing the evolving trends of Chinese literature.

Mengya (Buds)

First published in 1956, Mengya is one of New China’s earliest youth literary magazines, taking fostering young writers as its core mission. It functions both as a creative haven for young authors and a reading resource to cultivate teenagers’ literary literacy.

As China’s leading original youth literature periodical, it has become a cultural icon for the post-80s and post-90s generations, with peak circulation exceeding 500,000 copies. In 1997, the magazine initiated the National New Concept Writing Competition, and the term “New Concept” has since become an iconic catchphrase synonymous with the post-80s generation.

Shanghai Culture

A journal focusing on literary theory, Shanghai Culture engages with contemporary Chinese literature, the pulse of the times, global cultural trends, literary classics, writings by canonical masters and unknown authors, as well as all emerging literary and cultural phenomena. Its regular columns include Journal Observation, Methodology & Texts, Literary History, Cross-Border Narrative, Perspectives, Reading Notes, and Marginal Interviews.
